Data scientist

We are looking for a self-driven Data Scientist who is passionate about fields such as machine learning and predictive modelling but also has an understanding of software engineering, database management, and big data concepts. You will be pivotal to solving business puzzles through data and will help our customers act upon our insights.

The job

We see the data scientist’s role as one of the most creative jobs you could have in a modern organization. In your daily life, you will:

  • Apply scientific methods to real business problems such as understanding and predicting the needs and wants of customers, uncovering hidden behavioural patterns, improving the efficiency of sales and marketing teams, rescuing potential churners, and many others.
  • Be challenged to figure out things on your own – we use creativity to support our expertise in solving challenging and often novel problems, and this is why we love our jobs.
  • Learn in detail the workings of numerous industries – our clients are the world leaders in B2C and B2B – premium retail, consumer good, telecoms, utilities, FMCG, insurance, chemical, packaging and industrial equipment manufacturing, pharma, healthtech, construction materials – the list of industries we work with is constantly growing.
  • Be expected to try your best, all day, every day, in everything you do. We know things don’t always work as expected, but at Amplify, attitude is everything.
  • Have to roll up your sleeves and do the grunt work as well. 50% of a data scientist’s job is data wrangling, 35% is analytics/ML/modelling, and 15% is client-facing.
  • Contribute to further establishing our internal processes and ways of working. We are constantly improving through everyone’s contribution.

We know personal development is a key indicator for the self-driven data scientists we are looking for, so we want to be upfront. Here’s what you can expect at Amplify:

  • We believe in on-the-job learning. You will get immediate exposure to complicated problems. You will learn to solve them through a combination of your own knowledge, Stack Overflow, and the support of your colleagues. You will have to be proactive about your own upskilling, and therefore you will have the responsibility and the freedom to explore and we will enable you to do so.
  • We don’t (yet) have a structured training programme. To compensate for this, you will be assigned a mentor from the data science team who will guide you, act as a sounding board and help you when you get stuck.

What we care about when looking for new colleagues

We look for two things – cultural match and technical understanding:

  • You need to be proactive and keen to get better and better at your job. The right attitude can take you a long way.
  • We don’t expect you to know everything. We care about the fundamentals – know your stats and maths, application of modelling techniques comes second. We need to see proof that your knowledge is not superficial.
  • Experience with R, Python, and Git is key.
  • SQL experience and understanding will help you as working with databases is required.
  • Our DS team has a variety of educational backgrounds, so we will consider most degrees but as guidance Statistics, Econometrics, Applied mathematics, Computer science or another related field.
  • Perfect command of English is a must, all of our clients are international, and we take pride in being excellent communicators.

When choosing Amplify, here’s what you need to know:

  • We are transitioning from a start-up to a scale-up. This means you will be joining a growing, changing, evolving, and learning organization. Challenges are faced as a team, in which people respect and rely on each other. We try to minimize the “corporate way”, but we are realistic – processes make an organization better and you can expect to see robust ones and new ones being established.
  • We are goal-oriented which means as long as we deliver on time and up to a great standard, we don’t care how you dress for work or if you occasionally work from home.
  • We are fair payers – our salaries are very competitive and we reward excellent performance.
  • We can provide support with work visas for Bulgaria for candidates outside of the EU.

Send your CV, give us a week, and we will contact you if we see a good fit.
